The Lion King

It goes without saying that the animated jungle version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet is a timeless story that nails nearly every emotional beat, but what makes The Lion King stand out even among the rest of Disney’s greats are the absolutely unforgettable supporting characters (have there ever been better characters than Timon and Pumba?) and perhaps the most memorable soundtrack from top to bottom the studio has ever assembled. Even after seeing the movie dozens of times, Mufasa’s death always just plain sucks, and no amount of character development or revenge removes the pit in your stomach when the credits roll.
